which one is the best bet?

Personally I would go for the JBLs. I have not heard either model, but I am pretty shure that I would eventually (and probably soon too) dislike the glossy sides of the Gale speakers.

I actually own both pairs; i recently bought a pair of Gale with the 4 woofers to be refoamed with new surrounds: it was cheap only 250 GBP! I also rebuilt the crossover...
Last year i bought the Lancer L101 at about 3 times higher price...
Both are sounding terrific, so it's a big question for me to make the Sophie's choice, finding which one i will resell...

Understandable. In this light there are many ways to understand 'best bet'. It could best long term value. It could be best sound. It could also be best present resale value.
Of these it is only really the best present resale value that can factually investigated. The rest remain guesswork. If present resale value is not a compelling argument, then simply go with the ones you enjoy most. If you have no preference, then ask your family or friends.

No I did not know that. I can see why, since they are probably a prime exponent of some design trends that were breaking through at the time of inception.
I have seen other examples of this, like the Technics SL-10, which is also exhibited the the Museum of Modern Art.
